Construction Continues

Associates contributed to the jewelry store's time capsule for placement inside the newly reconstructed walls. The time capsule is composed of the store's past and present marketing materials such as postcards, advertisements, brochures, catalogs, newspaper articles, photos and other relevant information about the current staff, promotions and product lines. Once the capsule is recovered in future years, staff requests it be donated to the Porter County Historical Society. Discussing Gems with kids of Boys and Girls Club

Robert Flude, Gemologist and Co-Owner of our store, spent time with kids of the Boys and Girls Club at Valpo, Portage and South Haven on Monday, August 9th. His presentation on gemstones consisted of a 45 minute discussion on types of stones and their origin, how they are formed, and much more. He brought several rough cut gems and a few small diamonds from U.S., Brazil, Africa and other countries he has had the privilege of visiting. He also talked about gold, copper and how jewelers use these metals to create custom jewelry. Children asked many questions and were very pleased to learn about the fascinating world of gemology.

"My mom is a very good cook. I love her so much. I think she is a jewel. Her heart is safe with mine. I think she's beautiful. I wish her a wonderful Mother's Day. She looks like a beauty of roses. Her hair feels like a soft sunflower. She lets me have awesome birthdays. She takes me to the store and lets me buy my favorite things like rainbow dresses. Sometimes I think she dresses beautiful. She cooks spanish rice and African chicken. Sometimes my mom plays kick the ball with me. Goes on a walk with me. I drew and colored my mom a picture of my mom and me hugging. We had hearts around us. I was adpoted so when my mom got me she was happy crying. When I got to my room she made me feel at home. My mom lets me invite my friends over to play. She lets me have the best sleepovers EVER! My mom and I do arts and crafts together. My mom made me funny picture. A guy crossing his eyes and sticking his tongue out. I gave my mom a special surprise before. She loved it. On my mom's birthday I gave her a picture and a bow on top. She thinks I'm a great artist than anybody she's seen. Mother's Day Promotion

This year for Mother’s Day, we are pleased to announce our first annual letter writing campaign for Valparaiso Community students in kindergarten through fifth grade. We understand and appreciate that children are delighted to share an extra special gift on Mother’s Day; therefore we would like to assist them in expressing their true feelings of gratitude for the most significant woman in their life.

Our letter writing campaign, entitled Her Time to Shine like a Gem will consist of two groups: kindergarten through second grade in one category and students in third through fifth grade in the second group. Each elementary school with at least ten students total participating in our campaign will receive a $100 cash contribution that the school may allocate as desired. In addition, two individual winners will be selected out of the eight Valparaiso Community elementary schools based on their letter’s creativity. These two winners, one from each group will receive a PANDORA charm bracelet compliments of Martin Binder Jeweler, maximum retail value $100 each. Two second place winners will be selected, each receiving a gift certificate for a one hour massage, perfect for mom, compliments of House of Bianco Day Spa in Merrillville, retail value $75 each.

This is a great opportunity for kids to express their love on Mother’s Day, promote writing, and give our schools $100 for any extracurricular activities. Teachers from both Memorial and Central Elementary schools have already confirmed their eagerness to participate in this wonderful promotion.

Principals along with teachers within the community have received information on the details of this promotion. Winners will be contacted via telephone and announced in the “NEWS” section of our company’s website, www.martinbinders.com on Friday, May 7th. Once winners have been announced, the two winning children will get to accompany their mother or favorite woman into our store, to select a PANDORA bracelet to represent this special moment. Our two second place winners will also be called to pick up their gift certificates. Mothers’ whose children have participated in this campaign are welcome to pick up their child’s essay from our store during normal business hours starting on Monday, May 10th.
